Resources
There is so much health information available - especially online - it can become
quite difficult to determine which sources are actually reputable and safe. Below
is our personal list of approved sources.
- Weight-control Information Network (WIN)
The Weight-control Information Network provides the general public, health professionals,
the media, and Congress with up-to-date, science-based information on weight control,
obesity, physical activity, and related nutritional issues. This is an information
service from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases
(NIDDK).
- National Weight Control Registry (NWCR)
Most people believe that very few individuals succeed at maintaining weight loss
long-term. The National Weight Control Registry(NCWR) was developed to identify
behaviors that successful maintainers practice. The NWCR is tracking over 5,000
individuals who have lost significant amounts of weight (lost more than 30 pounds)
and kept it off for long periods of time (more than one year). To learn more, take
a look at the website: National Weight Control Registry
- The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
Information from the FDA regarding
safety issues and weight loss. This link includes access to health information
from other federal agencies about weight management, nutrition, lifestyle changes
and fitness.
