Emotional eating is very common. It means eating food when we're not physically hungry because it serves an emotional purpose. A lot of people eat to feel soothed or comforted. Others might eat when bored, or to distract themselves from uncomfortable thoughts or feelings. Some people eat because it's the only way they know to get a break during a busy day. Many of us also reward ourselves with food.
Regardless of why we emotionally eat, it can cause weight gain and mess up weight loss efforts. The first step in decreasing emotional eating is to become more aware of when and why we do it. The second step is substituting other ways of helping ourselves feel better in those moments we want to emotionally eat.
Try paying a little more attention to when, where, and why you
emotionally eat.
What else would help you feel less stressed, anxious, bored, lonely, or sad?
How else can you reward yourself?
